jane austen sketchPlain Jane: “No one can ever be in love more than once in their life.”

-Jane Austen in Sense and Sensibility

What do you think? Perhaps Jane is saying you may think you are in love, but real love only happens once in a person’s life? In Emma, Jane has the character of Harriet Smith contradict this statement though. After Harriet learns Mr. Weston has fallen in love with and married the governess Miss Taylor, Harriet exclaims she is happy it is possible to love twice in one’s lifetime.
