Plain Jane: “I am not fond of the idea of my shrubberies being always approachable.”
-Jane Austen in Persuasion
Sometimes a good, thick boxwood is all you need for intimidation. Jane adored her seclusion from society I think, she often spoke of her enjoyment of nature as greater than any party, man, or pastime. Though Jane differed very much from the other writers of her era, and particularly the romantic poets, she did share with Coleridge, Wordsworth, and Keats a very strong adoration of the great outdoors as a means to be alone in thought.
